Our Inaugural Event – March 28, 2019
The 416Cares inaugural event was a huge success. A very generous and enthusiastic group gathered at the Leaside Pub (thanks for the space and the free munchies!) for a very fun evening that did some good!
The end result? $18,250 donated to Moorelands Camp
(174 X $100 donations + 17 X $50 donations for under 30's = $18,250)
About Moorelands Camp. Established in 1912, Moorelands Kids is a children’s charity that works with more than 1,200 children and youth living in low-income, under-served Toronto neighbourhoods each year. One of their programs is Moorelands Camp. A gem in the Algonquin Highlands, each summer their summer camp welcomes 600 children and youth from some of the poorest neighbourhoods in Toronto. Swimming, canoeing, drama and music, kayaking, ropes courses, arts and crafts, and overnight tripping… the spirit of the wilderness! And built into all this fun are deeper leadership skills – skills necessary for life success – skills like communication, perseverance, listening, problem-solving and teamwork. Staff care deeply about the campers, supporting them as they practise positive interactions with each other and with adults, and celebrating their achievements. Campers return home bursting with great stories of their personal accomplishments, new leadership skills and wonderful memories.
